GREEN SPACES IDENTIFICATION

INTRODUCTION:

The problem we were given for this group project for a digital graphics class was to locate a series of locations of a certain category on RIT campus. Therefore, our task was to create wayfinding elements to propose. To approach this design problem we first came to the decision to locate green spaces, since there are a lot of hidden gems around campus. We knew our design had to be different from current RIT wayfinding designs since they lack character. We knew our design could be unique since there is no pre-existing signage for these places. In order to bring strong, beautiful graphics into the existing environment to improve the feeling on campus we thought of elements RIT was missing to create a conclusive solution.

DESIGN GOALS:

The RIT campus is filled with unique artistic and natural spaces for quiet and respite. However, many people may not know about them for they are inadequately defined and therefore hard to locate.

Our Solution: To create signage and wayfinding elements for the campus of RIT for students and staffs to easily and enjoyably use to find green spaces. That way they can relax and enjoy the elements of nature provided in the spaces.

GROUND ELEMENTS:

The ground element design is to be a leaf motif to match the signage design, as well as the green spaces it guides you to. They would guide you to the sign that has the wayfinding information to a nearby location. The leaf pathway would start after the name of the location that is placed on the asphalt/sidewalk and continue until you reached the designated sign.
