SUMMARY:
The ongoing housing crisis in the United States has intensified affordability concerns, particularly among Gen Z and Millennials, prompting a reexamination of traditional residential models. This capstone project explores co-living as a viable solution to the housing crisis, offering a model that balances affordability, sustainability, and well-being. Set in East Boston, Massachusetts, the proposed apartment complex integrates shared spaces, private units, and a pocket park to foster community while preserving privacy. Informed by surveys, interviews, and literature on co-living, the design emphasizes passive engagement, resource sharing, and flexible spatial planning. Drawing inspiration from European precedents, the project presents a replicable, research-driven solution to urban housing challenges.
